Should we just accept that Americans are too stupid to make democracy work?
Look at what "democracy" gave us during the last elections - a clueless dunce named Obama. Oh, sure - he can give a nice speech - but his policies are disastrous. Bail out the banks. Fail to reform the health care system AT ALL. Maintain Bushs Patriot Act provisions. Add to the debt. And so on.
But who are his main challengers?
They are also morons. Sarah Palin is painfully stupid, and would probably rely on her neocon "advisors," just like George W. Bush did. Bush wasted $3 trillion on Iraq. How much will Palin waste on Iran?
Then there is Willard "Mitt" Romney, whose own company (Bain Capital Management) helped crash the economy in 2008 (Bain was right in the middle of all those derivatives and exotic credit products trades). Hes a hardcore Wall Street guy - the Street calls the rules for him. If you like raw corporatocracy, then vote for Willard.
Mike Huckabee? What is he doing these days, anyway, aside from freeing more cop killers from prison?
NONE of these people has the courage to reform our real problems - entitlement spending. And that INCLUDES the $808 BILLION Pentagon budget.
Thats because - as Americans - we prefer to elect wimps and losers and spineless political hacks, as long as they have lots of corporate funding behind them.
People dont even think about the issues that actually matter.
Should we just admit that Americans have become too stupid to make a representative democratic republic work?
Answer: As long as the politicians are buying votes with more entitlements rather than saying we are going to be accountable to the people. They shouldn't get anything done. Entitlements is what is killing this country. Both the people & our politicians need to be accountable. For our politicians to be accountable we need to force them to write laws the way California writes propositions 1 narrowly defined good idea per bill. This will stop the corruption we saw in the attempt to pass health care reform where the politicians were bribing their fellow politicians.
Remember in the end corporations & business will never truly pay taxes! The taxes we Levey on them are passed through to the goods & services we buy. Stop the class warfare. Fix problems not blame, there is plenty of blame to go around. Start leading rather than partying like our politicians are in the movie Animal House!

Why is Mitt Romney doing business with companies that wanna hurt America?
Most Americans probably are not intimately familiar with Huawei (pronounced "Wa-way," as if Gilda Radner of Saturday Night Live fame were asked to pronounce the name). The companys founder, Ren Zhengfei is a former officer of the Peoples Liberation Army.
Tough to know what to make of that. When it comes to speaking with the press, Ren is a regular Greta Garbo. A mini-profile Forbes ran three years ago noted that many of Huaweis major customers are state-run businesses in China. And while Ren owns 1 percent of the company, the rest belongs to an unidentified "union."
Go figure.
Meanwhile, Ren has gone about building Huawei into a success story disregarding the usual corporate niceties. In 2000--three years before the WMD craze got us all nutso about taking out Saddam--the CIA accused Huawei of secretly selling a communications system to Iraq. In the final report of the Iraq Survey Group, Huawei and two other Chinese companies were singled out for carrying out "extensive work in and around Baghdad"--mainly telecommunication switches and the installation of fiber-optic cable.
Then in 2003, Cisco socked Huawei with a patent infringement lawsuit. Cisco claimed Huawei ripped off its intellectual property to make a lineup of routers and switches. Huawei denied the allegations though in the end caved.
But if at all possible, business doesnt let politics intrude. So it is that Friday we learned that Bain Capital is paying $2.2 billion to acquire 3Com. Part of the deal involves Chinas Huawei Technologies, which will acquire a minority stake in 3Com.
And, oh, by the way, Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor running for the Republican presidential nomination--he headed Bain Capital for 14 years.
Six degrees of separation. In this case only 2--but whos counting.
I wonder whether a future President Romney might have commented on Huawei figuring in a major U.S. tech acquisition. Im darned sure candidate Romney has since turned off his cell phone for an early start to the weekend.

At Bain Capital, Romney remade one American business after another, overhauling management and directing vast sums of money to the top of the labor pyramid.
What is Mitt Romneys record as a business man? What did he actually do at Bain Capital?
Ive noticed he is basically trying to downplay every other part of his record and focus on his credentials as a business man.
But what exactly did he do? (Im not implying he wasnt successful or anything......) Im just curious, what exactly did he do? And would this same type of action in a government role work at all?
@common sense..........."His most notable deed was saving the Salt Lake City games from going bankrupt."
Thats still kinda vague. What did he do?
@you crazy dems......."I question as to why you are so concerned of those that run against you 0bama. If 1/10th of the questions were asked of 0bama and people actually took that into consideration, 0bama would have never been President."
Assuming anyone who has anything even moderately negative to say about the Republican challengers supports Obama is dumb. I dont. Didnt in 2008. Certainly dont now. But I actually am interested in VETTING these people. Romney seems to want to lay low and not say anything.
@yogi.........."Ask question the most about the guy you plan to vote for. If you really knew about Obama you wouldnt be very happy with him or what he stands for."
WTF is wrong with you people?
Why the hell are you assuming I support Obama? AGAIN, didnt vote for him in 2008 and I certainly wont be supporting his lying @ss in 2012.
Answer: He was extremely good at what he did, and if there was hay to make the Progressives would be all over it. Defamation is their thing. They lie about this and that to do with Romney's record, but it's a pretty impressive one. He didn't give the progressive attack hyenas much.
Ask question the most about the guy you plan to vote for. If you really knew about Obama you wouldn't be very happy with him or what he stands for.
Romney took over the games that were writhe with corruption and going very badly, and he turned them around. He hunted down the corruption and stomped it out and made good deals and decisions for the project. He really did a trick turning that thing around. No one thought he could. He's quite a brilliant man and not afraid to wade into things and clean them up. He's no one to mess with, and he won't be bought or sell out.

What makes you think that Sarah Palin, like Mitt Romney, would be ready to lead the country on Day One?
If McCain should die or fall ill?
Mitt Romney went to school at Stanford, BYU, and Harvard LAW. An elite education. Where did Palin go?
Mitt Romney speaks several languages, including Spanish and French. Spanish is the language of 22 countries around the world, and French is spoken in over 30, including several countries which have important military or economic ties to America. He can talk to many world leaders directly in their own language. How many languages does Palin speak? Even McCain speaks Spanish.
Mitt Romney directed the private equity firm Bain Capital Management, and knows Wall Street and economic issues front to back. What (if any) high-level Wall Street or financial experience does Palin have?
Mitt Romney knows a thing or two about diplomacy, having lived in other countries and led several trade delegations as governor. How much of a diplomat is Palin?
You see, my fear is that Palin is so inexperienced provincial that, if she must take the reins, she will be ENTIRELY at the mercy of her ADVISERS - the same neocons who led Bush into the multitrillion-dollar Iraq fiasco.
I think an honest conservative has no choice but to vote Barr. Convince me otherwise.
Why so people keep dodging the question by referring to Obama or Biden. I AM A BARR SUPPORTER YOU MORONS. I DONT CARE ABOUT THE DEM TICKET.
Why do people keep dodging the question by referring to Obama or Biden? I AM A BARR SUPPORTER YOU MORONS. I DONT CARE ABOUT THE DEM TICKET.
Answer: BARR is infinitely better than Bush, McCain, Palin, Obama, and Biden, because he will do far less evil than these candidates who will support the military - industrial complex at a cost of lives and well-being of the average American and average Iraqi.
However, BARR fails to recognize the correct role of government. France, Canada, and Austrailia all have very effective single payer universal health care systems. The average French person lives 3 years longer than an American despite the French person's fat-rich diet.
The only candidates that I'd prefer to BARR would be NADER or MCKINNEY. Governments have a role in the lives of its citizens, albeit a much smaller role than the one the current administration has taken on.

Romney Likes Being Able to Fire People - So What?
"I like being able to fire people." - Mitt Romney
Fearful of a Romney runaway electoral victory, Mitts GOP primary rivals have sharpened their focus on his business career at Bain Capital, which has long been an electoral draw for him. Romney has run as a successful businessman, and both Rick Perry and a pro-Gingrich PAC have been taking aim.
While conservatives look unlikely to unite around one alternative to Romney, the campaigns themselves are uniting around this one theme, that the former head of Bain looted companies, tossed people out of jobs and is now exaggerating his success at the venture capital firm.
It smacks of desperation for the anti-Romney campaigns to come out with such hardline anti-capitalist rhetoric. The process of capitalism is one of creative destruction - the beauty is that new industries and jobs are created when others become less necessary and productive.
The Wall Street Journal has an in-depth analysis of some of these claims, and what it reveals is something that looks pretty standard for a successful investment firm: many projects you could call "fixer-upper" companies that would file for bankruptcy and reorganize, a lot of failed enterprises, and a small handful of projects that returned an enormous profit to Bain.
Among the findings: 22% either filed for bankruptcy reorganization or closed their doors by the end of the eighth year after Bain first invested, sometimes with substantial job losses. An additional 8% ran into so much trouble that all of the money Bain invested was lost.
Another finding was that Bain produced stellar returns for its investors—yet the bulk of these came from just a small number of its investments. Ten deals produced more than 70% of the dollar gains.
... Seeking the protection of a bankruptcy court isnt necessarily a sign of long-term business failure. Many of the Bain companies emerged from reorganization healthier, just as, for instance, General Motors did a few years ago. But while bankruptcy filings arent a perfect measure of performance, they provide a way to assess a disparate array of target businesses that in many cases werent required to make public financial filings.
Its easy to see the seeds of what kinds of attacks that Obama and the Left would throw at Romney were he to be the nominee: hes a businessman who doesnt care about the common people! He made money and also fired some people! He destroyed businesses and walked away with a huge paycheck!
Disappointing, then, that his Republican rivals would stoop to this line of attack. Its a plea to workers who have been hurt during the financial recession. Is there really not enough in Mitt Romneys record that they should stoop to his career as a successful and legitimate businessman as a line of attack?
Answer: Is not being the boss, give you the right to fire some one

Do you agree or disagree that what we need in a Presidential leader in the USA is...?
an experienced businessman or woman? As I watch President Obama try and stave off disaster until after the elections this year, and with him having absolutely no experience in business at all, that we need someone that has political experience, but more importantly, a proven business background. There is no way that our current President will pull us out of the mess we are in by borrowing and spending. Next year will be worse than we have experienced so far.
I took a telephone poll a few minutes ago asking me about Mitt Romney for President. I looked into his record and he seems the logical choice to get this country back on the right track. ( Out of any other choices!) Do you agree or not and why?
Wikipedia- Romney was raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and served as a Mormon missionary in France. He attended Stanford University and Brigham Young University as an undergraduate, then earned a joint Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School. He entered the management consulting business and became CEO of Bain & Company and co-founder of Bain Capital, a private equity investment firm
Romney won the election for Governor of Massachusetts in 2002. In his one term, he presided over a series of spending cuts and increases in fees while the states finances improved. He signed into law the landmark Massachusetts health care reform legislation, which provided near-universal health insurance access via subsidies and mandates.
Just trying to get some insight and trying to do the best for my country...any info on Romney or someone you think is qualifed to run this country is appreciated.
Thanks!
Appreciate all the thoughtful and informative answers! This question does prove that we are in deep trouble. With the past Presidents we have had and the one now in office, I really have no hope of things getting better in this country. And yes, we do need to govern ourselves. Government has gotten completely out of control and this can only lead to disaster. Even Obama is in the pants of corporate America and the Unions. And there is another problem, these massive radical Union organizations.
Thanks again everyone, looks like we have much work to do!
Answer: In a way I do. I mean there is enough money to pay the bills that care with a whole lot left over. If we can't turn a profit each year with all the cash in this country then someone needs to change something. Bush was an MBA and he failed...Clinton had a surplus but it was all from the Internet dot com craze....the present occupant can't even put forth a budget this year. I don't like Romney much. He's just a typical politician, we've had enough of them.

Laying off workers is not creating jobs.
