Newsmax/InsiderAdvantage Poll: Romney in Free Fall, if so can he can back?
GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney’s decision to campaign negatively in Iowa appears to have backfired, with a new Newsmax-InsiderAdvantage poll showing the former Massachusetts governor plummeting to fourth place in the Hawkeye State -- a swift decline that pollster Matt Towery describes as “imploding.”
Romney’s lead in New Hampshire is evaporating as well, Towery adds.
The InsiderAdvantage survey of 517 registered likely Iowa caucus-goers shows former House Speaker Newt Gingrich the leading choice of 27 percent of Iowa Republicans. He is followed by Texas Rep. Ron Paul at 17 percent, Texas Gov. Rick Perry at 13 percent, Romney at 12 percent, and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann at 10 percent.
Former Sen. Rick Santorum and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman have 7 percent and 4 percent respectively.
For Romney, the results are a stark contrast from earlier this month, when several polls showed him grabbing 20 percent of the vote in Iowa. At that point, pundits speculated it was even possible Romney could win Iowa outright.
Now, just a few weeks later, Towery says Romney is imploding.
“He’s imploding in the sense that somebody had to take all the Herman Cain vote, and then you had a large undecided vote. Throughout that entire time period, Romney has not moved a single point, and he’s moved from being in second place to being in fourth place,” says Towery. “So clearly whatever he’s been doing in Iowa is not working.”
Towery attributes Romney’s decline to his violation of one of the cardinal rules of Iowa politics: To always campaign on a positive rather than a negative basis.
In the past week Romney has unleashed surrogates to brand former Gingrich as a “faux conservative,” in the words of former New Hampshire Gov. John H. Sununu. Romney challenged Gingrich to return the $1.6 million he received while consulting troubled mortgage lender Freddie Mac. Romney also has been criticized for offering to make a $10,000 bet with Perry at the latest GOP debate.
Towery said Romney not only has attacked Gingrich, but has done so openly, attaching his name to the various charges that he’s leveled.
“That does not fly in Iowa,” Towery declared. “…In my judgment, they just took the wrong approach.”
Towery said that Romney would have been better off playing it conservative in Iowa, accepting a loss, and then moving on to continue the battle in New Hampshire.
“I think it’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen a campaign do, when they had so much good will in terms of how people felt about the candidate himself,” Towery said. “I mean, they may think he’s a moderate or a flip-flopper or whatever, but I don’t think anybody has ever accused Mitt Romney of being a bad guy.
“And now he’s turned himself into a bad guy in Iowa, a state where you can’t get away with it, because everybody talks to everybody,” he said.
Perhaps even more ominous for Romney, however, is the poll’s indication that Romney’s problems may have spread beyond Iowa.
“Because he’s having trouble in Iowa now, it’s spilling over to New Hampshire,” Towery said. “And while he still has a lead in New Hampshire, it’s not a compelling lead. And at one point it was an overwhelming lead.”
An NBC/Marist Poll conducted at the end of November showed Romney with a decisive double-digit lead over Gingrich, 39 percent to 23 percent. But the Newsmax-InsiderAdvantage poll of 521 likely GOP primary voters in New Hampshire shows Gingrich rapidly narrowing the gap.
Romney continues to lead with 29 percent of the vote in New Hampshire. Gingrich is second at 24 percent, and Paul is surging into a close third place with 21 percent of the vote. Huntsman, who in some ways has pursued a one-state strategy, is the only other candidate in double figures, with 11 percent. Following Huntsman are Bachmann with 4 percent, Santorum with 2 percent, and Perry with 1 percent.
Both the Iowa poll and the survey in New Hampshire have a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percent, according to Towery. He added that Paul is a serious factor in both states, and other candidates ignoring him do so at their peril.

Is Romney out of touch with American Workers as he has stated "I like to fire people" for the record?
Mitt Romneys declaration that "I like being able to fire people" set off a tempest on the eve of the New Hampshire Republican primary as his rivals seized a chance to rough up his presidential prospects beyond the race hes expected to win Tuesday.
Never mind that Romney was talking about American consumers being able to "fire" their health insurance companies, not about a boss laying off workers. His off-the-cuff comments Monday played into growing questions about whether his drive for profits at a private equity firm came at the expense of workers.
"Gov. Romney enjoys firing people, I enjoy creating jobs," GOP rival Jon Huntsman told reporters at a Concord, N.H., rally. "It may be that hes slightly out of touch with the economic reality playing out in America, and thats a dangerous place for someone to be."

Apparently, Multiple Choice Mitt has decided that he doesnt want to visit South Carolina. The most obvious example was when the cowardly flip-flopper chickened out of that debate a few days ago.
Does this Massachusetts "RINO" realize that nobody has ever won the Republican nomination without winning the South Carolina primary (since the first primary in that state in 1980)? Iowa and New Hampshire cant say that (neither of these states can even say that they picked the Republican nominee in each of the last 2 competitive GOP primaries). As goes South Carolina, so goes the GOP.
Romney looks to be this years Rudy Giuliani. Most people forget this these days, but the pro-abortion former mayor of New York City was actually the GOP frontrunner for most of 2007 (except when some actor youve probably never heard of was the frontrunner, until he actually declared his candidacy at least). At one point, Joe Biden famously pointed out in a debate that the only words that came out of Giulianis mouth all campaign were variations on "Noun, Verb, 9/11."
Is Mitt Romney facing a disastrous defeat in the 2012 primary season? If so, that means that the GOP field is wide open for the Tea Party and/or the "Religious Right" to choose a "far-right" candidate. If the economy takes a sharp turn for the worse in the next year and a half, as I think it will, we could have our most conservative president in modern American history.
Answer: How?
None of these far right douche-bags is going to get 40% of Latino voters. The teabaggers hate them only a moderate can win and that is why Obama has been running down the middle this whole time. Don't forget the GOP just said in public they want to privatize Medicare and the Bush tax cut debate will be back soon. The GOP has a snowballs chance in hell at this point.

Who will be the GOP VP nominee?
Romney "won" in Iowa, is projected to win in a landslide in New Hampshire, and recently started leading in South Carolina, as well. Which is not surprising once you realize that the runner-up in basically every GOP primary race in one election cycle has gone on to win the nomination in the next open cycle since Watergate.
So lets assume for the moment Romney wins the GOP nomination - meaning everyone except Romney is available to serve as a VP candidate.
Who do you think would be chosen?
Personally, Id think a strong, young conservative - who could potentially be the front-runner in 2020, and would help balance out Romneys more moderate tendencies and religion today - would be the best bet. Someone like Perry would be great, if he hasnt attacked the eventual nominee too much already. Im also wondering if the reason Chris Christie - who would also fit the bill - chose not to run was so that he wouldnt have spoken ill about the eventual nominee. If the nominee was someone other than Romney, Id mention Bobby Jindal - but Jindal refused money from Romneys PAC a couple years ago - which is good to the extent that it shows that Romney likes Jindal, but Im not sure if Jindal is quite as fond of Romney.
How about you?
Didnt Rice (and Powell) endorse Obama the last time around...?
Answer: It's hard to tell. If it's Romney, one would think the GOP's VP would be more right wing than Romney and more acceptable to the Christian conservative base who base their voting on many social issues (gay rights, pro-life issues, prayer in schools, gun rights). And I think it will be someone not in the running now. Look at Palin - now she was way to the right of McCain but, as we saw in the 2008 election, unable to draw votes. Bobby Jindal perhaps? Kind of young but all the right qualifications for the conservative wing. Nikki Haley of South Carolina - both a conservative and a woman could help balance the ticket. Lots of interesting choices out there.

2012 GOP Primary Question?
Do you think Sarah Palin can beat former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee in southern states primaries and do you think Mitt Romney(Mass Gov 2003-2007) is most likely to win New Hampshire?
Answer: I'm pretty sure Mike Huckabee would take it (if it's between the two which I seriously doubt) especially following Sarah Palin's decision to walk out before her term was up. A lot of people, even those who had respect for her, lost a lot of respect after she did that. And Mike Huckabee has learned a lot from his last run so I think he's in good shape to be the man people had hoped he was the last time around. Mitt Romney has a strong following and has proven himself to be very successful not only professionally and politically but personally. I think people are less afraid of skeletons coming out of his closet and he's in a great position to win. Just my guess.
~Best Wishes!!!

Will Ron Paul and his backers hurt McCain at the polls and the convention? Read LA Times article first.?
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/05/ronpaulgop.html
Here is a part of the article....
Pauls presidential candidacy has been correctly dismissed all along in terms of winning the nomination. He was even excluded as irrelevant by Fox News from a nationally-televised GOP debate in New Hampshire.
But whats been largely overlooked is Pauls candidacy as a reflection of a powerful lingering dissatisfaction with the Arizona senator among the partys most conservative conservatives. As anticipated a month ago in The Ticket, that situation could be exacerbated by todays expected announcement from former Republican Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia for the Libertarian Partys presidential nod, a slot held by Paul in 1988.
Nevermind Ralph Nader, Republican and Democratic parties both face....
...potentially damaging internal splits that could cripple their chances for victory in a narrow vote on Nov. 4.
Just take a look at recent Republican primary results, largely overlooked because McCain locked up the necessary 1,191 delegates long ago. In Indiana, McCain got 77% of the recent Republican primary vote, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney, whove each long ago quit and endorsed McCain, still got 10% and 5% respectively, while Paul took 8%.
On the same May 6 in North Carolina, McCain received less than three-quarters of Republican votes (74%), while Huckabee got 12%, Paul 7% and Alan Keyes and No Preference took a total of 7%.
Answer: When people go into the voting booth and pull the curtian and look at their choices of Obama vs McCain.
Liberals will go Obama
Conservatives will go McCain
The moderates and those who are really going to swing this election will go with that person who is conservative to moderate.
There will not be enough of them to matter from Ron Paul's camp to mount to a hill of beans.
People will know in the hearts of hearts that Obama is too liberal and vote for McCain.
The fact is this country like it or not are made of people to right of center and not as liberal.
Look back to the 04 when a conservative vs liberal Kerry and what did we get a MAJORITY of votes for Bush.
Now thinking going farther to the left is going to make things betters is kind of foolish.
Obama hasn't done all that well when it comes to private voting and the big states.
The DNC just made MI and FL mad.
PA also show the DNC what they think of Obama.
This election is going to be too close to let those states be upset.

Is New Hampshire (GOP straw poll, Chairman race) a good indicator of who might win the Repub. pres. nomination?
In a GOP straw poll taken the other day Romney (who has been campaigning extensively) took home first place with 35% of the vote. Ron Paul (who has done no campaigning in NH) finished second with 11%. Tim Pawlenty (who has also been campaigning quite a bit) finished third with 8%.
In the GOP Chairmans race, the "tea party" candidate won (which is apparently unexpected).
So if the "tea party" does indeed influence the GOP primary process more than people are expecting, who would benefit the most of those currently polling at the top? Could Ron Paul actually potentially get a nomination? (Considering Romney etc. are considered "establishment" Republicans....
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0111/48021.html
DERRY, N.H.— If anyone thought the tea party movement would fade away after the November elections, content to have played a key role in ousting the ruling Democratic class and splintered by internal divisions, they were mistaken.
Saturday’s victory by tea party favorite Jack Kimball in the New Hampshire GOP chairman’s race provided the most significant evidence to date that the energy that activists brought to the midterms is now being channeled in a different direction—one that could reshape the 2012 GOP presidential race and require candidates to rethink the traditional approaches to winning the Republican nomination.

DERRY, N.H. – Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney won the first presidential straw poll of the 2012 cycle, kicking off New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary election race.
Romney won with 35 percent, beating second-place finisher Ron Paul by 24 points in the WMUR-ABC News straw poll of members of the state Republican Party. In third place was former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who won 8 percent—just one point ahead of Sarah Palin, who drew 7 percent.

The former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee is on a roll: Her political endorsements have helped propel a number of upstart Republican contenders to victory in recent primaries, including a double win Tuesday in Delaware and New Hampshire. Her cable TV show makes its debut in November. And now shes off to the state thats made and broken more than its share of presidential campaigns.
Palin will be the big draw at Fridays Reagan Dinner in Des Moines, the Iowa Republican Partys biggest fundraiser. The question that will be on everyones mind is whether shell run for president in 2012.
Iowa, home to the nations leadoff presidential caucuses, can be tough terrain for celebrity candidates. Those who try to ride their fame to victory in Iowa without organizing a grass-roots campaign often find themselves on the outs.
Remember John Glenn? The former astronaut and senator drew huge crowds and intense attention here when he sought the Democratic nomination in 1984 — and got just 4 percent of the vote.
"They were coming out to see John Glenn the astronaut, not John Glenn the Democrat running for president," said veteran Republican strategist Eric Woolson.
If she runs, Palin would start with strong appeal among the social and religious conservatives who play a crucial role in Iowas Republican politics. But that appeal wouldnt necessarily last if its not backed up by a strong effort to reach out to caucus voters, said Steve Scheffler, head of the Iowa Christian Alliance.
"The track to success in Iowa is slogging around all of the small towns in bad weather and sleeping in downscale motels because thats the best in town," said Rich Galen, a GOP strategist based in Washington. "That certainly doesnt seem to fit the Palin theory of how she should conduct her life."
A Palin candidacy also would test Iowas glass ceiling. Just ask Hillary Rodham Clinton, who came in third in the 2008 caucuses, how tough the state can be for a woman. Iowa is one of two states — Mississippi is the other — thats never sent a woman to Congress or elected a woman governor.
Palin is far from alone in taking early steps to court Iowa activists. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has made multiple trips to the state, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has put a staff member in Iowa and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania all have visits in the works.
Palin has been coy about her presidential intentions and masterful at keeping her name in the news since she abruptly resigned as Alaskas governor in 2009. Shes mixed political fundraisers and candidates campaign events with speeches in which she commands fees as high as $100,000.

GOP: Its Time to Panic
They got nothing and nobody
GOP front runner Herman Cain is accused of several instances of sexual harassment; the weirdo with the Magic Underpants has managed to make his candidacy as exciting as coffin shopping. The rootin tootin cowboy spent this week trying to convince people he wasn’t drunk during a speech in New Hampshire.
Not a single one of them—not Herman Cain nor Mitt Romney nor Rick Perry—bests a badly weakened Obama in the latest polls. And yet the GOP—the same crew who brought us Bob Dole, John McCain and the Iraq War—inform us that Republican primary voters are happier with their choices than ever.
The might be good liars at the top GOP echelon, but the rank and file isnt happy with their choices.
If anything, there is deep unease among activist conservatives—the sort who trudge to the polls in the bitter winters of Iowa and New Hampshire—about the state of the race. At several recent functions in Washington, attendees expressed great enthusiasm for unseating Obama, but hardly anyone was thrilled with their likely standard bearers.
Is it time for the GOP to start panicking yet?
They have nothing and their odds of finding somebody decent are slim and none.
The GOP is controlled by drunken yahoos and theres no cure for that.
This is Obamas election to lose.
He could still blow it, but right now hes poised to win.
Answer: Right on all counts! I agree, 100%. The only way for Obama to lose now, is if he blows off his own foot, and does something boneheaded, like a Monica Lewinsky scandal or something.

2 hours ago ... Polls in New Hampshire indicate that Mitt Romney should win a convincing plurality Tuesday in the first Republican Party primary. Voting will ...
Why does McCain get love south of the border?
Republican has almost become a four letter word here in Mexico, which largely sees the GOP as xenophobic and rabidly anti-immigrant. Republican candidates are seen as stepping all over themselves in an attempt to flash their tough on immigration credentials. The great Republican hope though is Sen. John McCain, who defied his party last year by co-sponsoring a broad immigration reform bill.
Analysts here are putting a lot of stock in McCain’s performance tomorrow night in the New Hampshire primary. Ricardo Raphael, a columnist for the El Universal newspaper, writes today that a McCain win would show that “the xenophobia in our neighboring country has lost a fundamental battle …On the other hand, if Romney or Giuliani recover their political vigor and manage to get past McCain or Huckabee (the winner of the Iowa primaries), the anti-immigration flag will continue to fly and the very soon it will be the Democratic candidates…that will have to define themselves before the issue.”

If he or the Dems get the White House, are we screwed?
Guys Im anti-illegal. I was pointing out what those pro-illegals in Mexico want. McCain is a traitor.
Im on your side.
Answer: 12 million reside here . Perhaps 2 million have been already thru the criminal system. But what do you with these numbers? What do you do with the employers, the line of complicity.
I am curious and thank you for providing a link. After 20 yrs of debates I feel McCain wants a compromise. Not amnesty. But you have got to hear it from the source so please read the website. Thanks.

btw It is known that the MS 13 are coming thru Mexico's borders. In politics if someone is harping bad news usually means they are a threat. Each of the candidates stated they would end the war in Iraq and shifted. Same goes for removing immigrants wihout screening before hand. Just more campaign noise. AND I read EL Universal myself, have for months. Chavez may have reasons he wants McCain out as he is the primary suspect training the MS 13 and moving them into US gang warfare... these guys are the most violent and ruthless of the bunch.
