new hampshire primary: How Do you feel?
Analysis: Obama now a prime target By BETH FOUHY,
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Democrats who spent a year playing "Iowa Nice" might be taking a turn into New Hampshire nasty.
Sen. Barack Obamas message of hope and unity was a fine fit for Iowa, a state where voters are notoriously resistant to negative campaigning, and the Democratic contest he won there was a relatively civil affair. Not a single televised attack ad was shown and the contenders exchanged only mild jabs.
Such pleasantries will surely be jettisoned in New Hampshire by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who only has five days to rebound from a crippling loss in Iowa in order to prevent her candidacy from imploding; and by John Edwards, who placed slightly ahead of Clinton in Iowa and has shown his willingness to take a scalpel to his opponents when necessary.
Obama has gone into this states compressed contest with a target on his back —
a situation he has managed to avoid throughout his career in politics.
"We dont need more heat — we need more light," he said Friday, as if anticipating the sharper tone to come.
But hes under the klieg lights now.
"Obama, through an unprecedented convergence of luck and skill, has never before faced serious attack delivered by a competent opponent," Democratic strategist Dan Newman said. "Hes now earned the right to be mercilessly scrubbed and scrutinized. No one knows how hell respond to the challenge, and how voters will evaluate the criticism."
Clinton said Friday that voters deserve a close examination of Obamas positions and the contrasts among candidates.
"I think everybody is supposed to be vetted and tested," she said. "The last thing Democrats need is to move quickly through this process, so telescoped, without taking a hard look at all of this. ... Its hard to know exactly where he stands and people need to ask that."
She added: "I think theres a lot
"I think theres a lot to talk about, comparing and contrasting."
Clinton, whose once sturdy lead in New Hampshire had already begun to shrink in the days before Iowas caucuses, is relying on the state as her husband did in 1992 to make her the "comeback kid." The former president is still widely popular here and will campaign for his wife until the primary on Tuesday.
"New Hampshire is the last chance for someone who loses Iowa," said Andrew Smith, polling director for the University of New Hampshire. "You lose in Iowa and you lose New Hampshire, its done. You go home."
Clintons aides say her campaign will renew its scrutiny of Obamas comparatively thin record and lack of foreign policy experience, questioning whether he is ready to lead in a dangerous world.
They will also try to paint him as something of a phony — someone whose lofty rhetoric isnt born out in his own public record.
They point to his votes in the Senate to fund the Iraq war even as he tried to position himself as the strongest anti-war candidate in the field.
"He talks about change but has no real record of making change," said Mark Penn, the Clinton campaigns pollster and senior strategist.
The Clinton campaign is also likely to begin showing commercials attacking Obamas health care plan, which they say would leave 15 million people uninsured.
Edwards, meanwhile, can be expected to renew questions about whether Obamas brand of unity politics is too naive for the dog-eat-dog world of partisan Washington.
Much will also be riding on a nationally televised debate among the Democratic contenders Saturday. Both Clinton and Edwards have typically excelled in such forums, while Obamas performances have been inconsistent.
"The debate will loom large," said Dante Scala, a political scientist at the University of New Hampshire.
NUMBness is what got us in this awful mess in the first place.
We shoulda gone with MickeyMouse Last time around.
I keep thinking, Hilary has the experience we need , and now with Mr Obama leading the pack i think its about time to inspect his background a little more closely. they did it to Hilary ,and she came out clean.

Negativity Sucks.
Answer: Obama and Huckabee are the rhetorical targets for the next few days, having won in Iowa.
It's crunch time for Clinton and Romney. I doubt either would have a decent chance at the nomination if they lost there, no matter how much money they have.
When people get desperate they go negative. It could be a dirty weekend!
PS Oddly enough, all the other states seem to have given Iowa and New Hampshire MORE influence, not less, by moving up their primaries. If we had had a season lasting from January to June as in prior years, there would not be as much of a premium on winning the early contests. But now, there's only a month before "super duper Tuesday" so any win receives outsized attention.

In the past new Hampshire primaries why did?
Why did 257 democrats write in Bush Jr, in 2004?
And why did 3,320 democrats, write in John McCain, in 2000?
The New Hampshire Primaries is neither open or closed.
It is not a closed primary, in which votes can be cast in a party primary only by people registered with that party. Undeclared voters — those not registered with any party — can vote in either party primary. However, it does not meet a common definition of an open primary, because people registered as Republican or Democrat on voting day cannot cast ballots in the primary of the other party.
As I already stated, Bush, and McCain was write in on the Democratic ballot, not actual choices.
No it does not.
Why would Democrats vote for Republicans.
Not how could they.
Answer: Probably because they were confused. I think all primaries should be closed.

Should congress mandate a national primary day?
There are alot of states moving up their primary dates for presidential elections in order to have a greater influence on who ultimately becomes the candidate for each party. Most candidates are out of the presidential primaries after Iowa and New Hampshire. Thats long before the rest of us even get to vote. The earlier a state holds their primary the greater influence that single state has on a national election. The simple solution is for congress to mandate a single day for all states to hold primaries in national elections - one day for each partys primary. All americans should be outraged that two or three states get to determine which candidates we have to choose from in a presidential election. If you agree, write your congressman and demand that congress solves this issue and makes sure that every americans vote counts in presidential primaries.
Answer: I wish that all of the states held them: I live in Kansas, and just learned that they canceled our primaries as they have every time except 1992 and once in the 80's.
This was going to be my first chance to vote (I'm 27 and never voted before because I didn't think my vote counted, but seeing all that is happening I want to at least try to make a difference): I just registered a month ago, and am really excited about the primaries and wanted to vote for my guy, but my state is not going to hold them because they feel it would be a waste of tax dollars!
Excuse me? This is the President of our country we are electing: I can't think of anything as important as that!

Why did the DNC give a Waiver to new Hampire to move their primary up, but not Michigan and Florida?
In the Meeting the other day, it was told that the DNC has decided to let two states hold thier primary in between Iowa and New Hampsire, Once the agreement had been passed though, New Hampshire moved their primary up to be second, and the Rules Committee gave them a wavier. Why was it okay for New Hampshire to break the rules, but not Michigan and Florida?
Answer: Iowa (caucus) and New Hampshire (primary) have always gone first since the 60's in that order. NH has always been the "kick off" Presidential Primary State.
It was decided this year to add two more states for diversity to the January process. Caucus, Primary, Caucus, Primary.
12 States applied and both Party's chose the two States, at least that is my understanding.
Then, the Republican Party decided to move up their SC primary to 1/19. The SC Democratic Party said it would stick to the 1/29 date set by the DNC.
But, in moving up the Republican Primary in SC, that forced NH to move theirs up. Under NH State Law, they have to hold their Primary at least one week prior to any other contest. The Secretary of State in NH has to schedule this.
After the first four went in January, no other State is allowed to hold a primary or caucus until the first Tuesday in February as per the DNC rules.
But since the Republican Party moved up their SC primary, forcing NH by State Law to move theirs up, they were allowed waiver to do so, since they're considered the "kick off" State for the Presidential Primary process.
Michigan's Governor signed into State Law that they would hold all State/local elections, voting processes, including the Presidential Primary on the same date, which was in January.
The DNC is not allowed to dictate what a State does concerning it's own state and local elections/voting processes, but they do have the right to go by the rules of the Democratic Party in regards to Presidential primary dates and delegates. I am not positive, but given the Governor's new Law, I'm not sure there was anything the Michigan States Democratic party was able to do.
I believe what happened in Florida was the State Legislature changed their State/local voting process to a date in January. The Republican's Presidential Primary schedule allowed for them to hold their primary on that same date as the State/local elections and voting processes, so they went with that.
The Florida States Democratic Party officials were sent a letter regarding the punishments for not abiding by the rules, as they went ahead and scheduled their Primary on that date as well. They had thirty days to come up with another plan/date, as long as it was not in January.
It's my understanding, the head of the Florida Democratic Party refused to make any changes, because there was an important property tax that needed to be voted on, and they wanted to hold their Primary the same day as the Republicans so that all voters would come out and vote on the State property tax issues as well.
Since Nevada and South Carolina had already been chosen as the other two early States to go in January with Iowa and NH.....that is why Florida and Michigan did not get a waiver.....at least that is my take on what happened....
If they had been given one, the Caucus's and Primary's would have been starting in December, due to the NH Presidential Primary Law....
From my point of view....it's all very complicated and confusing. I have a sense that the whole process will be looked into and changed, even if just to pick a later starting date for both party's and sticking to that....
This is an interesting link as to the history of primaries, delegate selection, changes over the years, and including this year....

She was crying the day before the New Hampshire primary and now she is crying again today right before Super Tuesday when many states hold their primaries. Doesnt it seem pretty clear that her crying fits are planned events to make people think she actually has a heart when she is in fact a bitter communist witch? Is anyone buying her cheesy melodramatic acting routines?

Who says Ron Paul doesnt have a chance in New Hampshire?
Three New Hampshire newspapers announced their endorsement of GOP presidential contender Ron Paul on Wednesday.
In a statement released the day of the endorsement, the Texas congressman’s campaign staff listed the three as the Littleton Courier, Berlin Reporter and Coos County Democrat. The papers’ announcements come on the heels of the results of the Iowa caucuses.
“Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has been in the lead for months,” wrote the editors of the three, “but voters still seem desperate for an alternative — there’s always another candidate pulling stronger or almost as strong numbers in the polls. Voters have lost faith in Obama, but they are not sold on Romney to replace him.”
The three papers — located in in New Hampshire’s sparsely populated north country — are owned by the same parent company, Salmon Press. The editors commended Paul for his consistency throughout his career as a public servant, and his record. Paul has “has never voted to raise a tax and voted against all of the bailouts that have riled up tea partiers and Occupy Wall Streeters alike,” said the editors.
Recent polling data and Romney’s strong ground game in New Hampshire suggest that the former governor could beat Paul in next week’s New Hampshire primary by a wide margin. Romney lost to Sen. John McCain in 2008 by five points.
“Powerful leaders like Franklin Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan change the political landscape,” the editors concluded. “This is what Ron Paul would do for our country and why we support him.”

Answer: That's why we have elections and that is why the GOP wishes we did not. But since they still do not have the power to end the election process they just stand behind a microphone and try to tell people not to run. Why? What is the reason one does not run? What is to be gained by being a quitter? That's not the mentality of anyone but a loser. Only quitters are losers. And people like Rush Limbaugh are the sponsors of losers.
