SANFORD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) – Investigators with the Sanford Police Department are still trying to figure out exactly what happened during an altercation which resulted in a fatal shooting in the Twin Lakes area. The shooting happened just after 7 p.m. Sunday evening on Twin Trees Lane. A man who witnessed part of the altercation contacted authorities.
“The guy on the bottom, who had a red sweater on [Zimmerman], was yelling to me, ‘Help! Help!’ and I told him to stop, and I was calling 911,” said the witness, who asked to be identified only by his first name, John.
John said he locked his patio door, ran upstairs and heard at least one gun shot.
“And then, when I got upstairs and looked down, the guy who was on the top beating up the other guy, was the one laying in the grass, and I believe he was dead at that point.”
On Monday afternoon, a FOX 35 News crew met with Tracy Martin who said the victim in the shooting is her 17-year-old son, Trayvon, who was visiting from Miami.
“He walked out of the house to go to the store. He was going to the store,” she said. “He doesn’t know anybody here. He just came down here, so he was bored, so he walked down to the store. He was on his way back home. I’m living down here. He was sitting on the porch and this man killed him.”
Police said the shooter, identified as 25-year-old George Zimmerman, surrendered immediately. He has been questioned, but no charges have been levied and no arrest made.

Can you help me understand pieces of evidence in the trayvon martin george zimmer case?
I could be wrong so correct me if I am.
Zimmerman claim he was getting out the car to see what street hes on than Martin attacked him from behind 2 things I find wrong with that.
first, if thats a neighborhood you are at everyday and your on watch and your traing to be a police officer you should know what street your on without looking at a street sign and if you feel your in danger you would not get out of your car.
second, trayvons girlfriend said that she heard him ask the zimmerman "why are you followimg me" and zimmerman replied "what are you doing out here" after that she said she heard a scuffle than the call dropped. How does any of that show trayvon jumped him from behind.
in the 911 calls also thier is no indication that zimmerman was jumped from behind.. (unless thier not releasing some stuff) how do they have the entire thing on the 911 call up until the gun shot but some how not the part where zimmerman get out the car and check for a street sign not to mention he never told the operator thats what he was about to do.
now lets just 140 pound kid was on top of 250 pound man WHO WAS TRAINING TO GO INTO LAW ENFORCEMENT SO SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN TIP TOP.SHAPE TO HANDLE 140 POUND KID.and was beating him like some ppl say if he was beating him that bad where did he find to time to pull out the gun and shoot the kid also if the kid was on top of him beating him when he shot him than thier would be some of martins blood on zimmermans shirt.. if there is no blood on tge shirt than that only futher proves that it infact was not self defense because he could have just pointed the gun at the kid and tolkd him to stay there til the cops came.

Trayvon Martin was suspended from school for 10 days at the time of his death for having drugs on him in school.
The screaming you hear on the 911 tape is NOT Trayvon Martin yelling for help, its actually George Zimmerman who was being attacked. They say Zimmerman was retreating when Martin attacked him from behind, knocked him to the ground face first, breaking his nose and then slammed his head into the ground several times. This was supported by eye witnesses. He was grabbing for Zimmermans gun when Zimmerman shot him.
So given the new facts, do you feel the shooting was justified?

How could the man who killed Treyvonn actually get away with murder with the "Stand Your Ground" law?
Police didnt arrest George Zimmerman. They didnt arrest him after he got off his car, shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was unarmed and on his way back from the store after buying some snacks. They didnt arrest him after 9-11 calls emerged in which police advise Zimmerman, who was on Neighborhood Watch patrol, not to follow Martin. So--how could he possibly argue self defense when the Stand Your Ground law clearly does not apply!
But, as NPRs Joel Rose reported, Florida law may mean prosecuting Zimmerman could prove difficult.
"As long as you are somewhere you have a lawful right to be, if someone attacks you, the words of the statute are you can meet force with force, including deadly force, if you reasonably believe that that is necessary," Jeffrey Bellin, who teaches law at Southern Methodist University, told Joel.
That law known as the "Stand Your Ground," or "Shoot First" law was enaced in 2005 and has been controversial.

Answer: You both have points, but scott is more to the point, you are innocent until proven guilty However, there are many questions here. The law says if attacked while you are somewhere you have a right top be Zimmerman had gotten out of his car, was armed, which is a violation of the rules of block watches. and from his 911 call, he was intoxicated. The average civilian would not pick up on that, but police officers are trained to detect the effects of alcohol, based on a person's voice and speech.Zimmerman had no right to be confronting Martin. Sadly, many block watch groups attract wannabe cops, and situations like this develop. The police there completely jeopardized the case, acting more like nine-year old Cub Scouts than trained police officers. It is standard procedure when a person shoots and kills another human being for the police to test the shooter for alcohol and/or drugs. This was not done. It is standard procedure to detain a subject for investigation after a shooting death. Zimmerman was allowed to go home and possibly destroy any evidence. The police treated Zimmerman more like a good ol' boy than the prime suspect in a possible homicide. If I were the police chief in this jurisdiction. the officers involved in this case would be placed on administrative leave with pay, pending an Investigation by the Internal Affairs Division. Every death is, or should be, investigated as a homicide until proven to be from other causes. The cops here acted as if Zimmerman spit on the sidewalk.
