For the past couple of months I have been suffering from clinical depression. Although I have had depression before, once in my teens and then later in my early twenties, I was able to overcome. This time though it has hit me again in a big way, its more severe this time and has lead to thoughts of suicide and violence towards people who have done me wrong. It has been building up for the last 5 years or so, during those years I went through phases of paranoia, avoiding people such as large crowds, isolating myself from friends and sometimes family, binge eating, losing interest in some of the activities I used to enjoy. Even then I didnt think I had a problem as I thought I could deal with it on my own. But instead I let it build up and due to some recent events, I guess it reached a peak and my head just fell apart. My sleeping patterns were erractic, no appetite, would spend weekends and days off staying in bed for most of the day, couldnt think straight, thoughts of suicide or at least really damaging myself to take away the mental anguish, stop caring about myself and see no point to anything anymore. By this stage I knew I couldnt get better on my own and it was my Sister, who had to hackle me as she could tell something was wrong, since I kept hiding it away from everyone. With her support, I went to my GP and explained my situation and he put me on anti-depressants which in some ways help but I can still feel this black emotion underneath this blanket of calmness that the anti-depressants provide. Ive tried to get counseling but theres a waiting list, but I dont know if thats going to help as on certain days I feel ok, not great but still better than I was. Ive talked to family members who have also experienced depression although theirs wasnt as severe as mine. But there has been bad days as well, after a couple of weeks on the pills, I woke up feeling really down, couldnt go to work and stayed over my mothers for a few days, just to be around people as I live alone, which doesnt help I know. Then a few weeks after that on a Friday night I just couldnt sleep and my head was full of negative thoughts which by Saturday morning I just had to leash out, I just trashed my front room, throwing whatever I could get hold of onto the floor, kicking over the tv, just wanted to get this void as I call it out of my system. Then my sister phoned to check up on me and asked if I was alright, I screamed at her telling no Im not, told her what Ive done then said to her Im done, that Ive had enough and I was going to leave. Of course it was a bit more extreme than that, but in those moments of despair I cant remember everything. My Brother and Brother in law came around and stopped me from leaving, after a long chat we decided that it would be best that I stay over my Brothers for a few days while my Sister and Mother tidied up the house which was a mess, even before I trashed the front room as I didnt see the point of doing any house work. My routine at that point was go to work, then come home and go straight to bed, spend hours on the internet just to escape these negative feelings, I would be on the net all night just looking up anthing from conspiracy theories to cartoons I used to watch as a kid, pathetic I know, but I just didnt have any desire for anything else, I saw no point. When my family saw how bad things had evolved, I didnt feel embarrassed by it at all, in fact it was a relief, I know that sounds horrible but I meant that I no longer felt that I had to hide all this away from them. After a few days at my Brothers I I spent a weekend at my Aunties, who happens to be a samaritan. My Aunty is only the few people I could turn to as we are on the same wave lenght, I explained to her the events that I think have caused this mess and gave me some advice. However, after returning from my Aunty, I returned to work feeling a little more positive and some glimmer of hope, but as I work for a family business which my Brother manages, him and me had a fallout which led me throwing him onto the floor after he had grabbed me and through me out into the car park from our building in front of the staff. In a fit of rage I screamed and swore at him, telling him who the hell did he think he is, certain staff members came out and had to hold me back. After that event I felt all was lost, just when I thought I could see a light at the end of the tunnel, something to aim for, it was gone in that moment. I took a few days off from work, patch things up with my Brother, stayed at my Mothers home for a short while, saw my GP again. Im sorry if I have gone on I didnt mean to go on more than I should have. My family are keeping a close eye on me and are doing everything they can to help, for that Im grateful. But I still have days where those dark thoughts occur,
