Pearl Harbor 65 years ago today. Do you have any connection to it?
The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor began at 7:53 am (Hawaii time) this day 65 years ago. Over 2400 American servicemen died.
This attack was an incredible tactical victory for the tiny island nation of Japan. But it also sealed her fate as the human testing ground of the worst weapon ever created by man.
There was no turning back once Pandora was out of the box. My parents lived in a world where they regularily hid under their little wooden school desks from possible nuclear bombs. My uncle married a lady who as a child had been a prisoner-of-war for merely being born Japanese in Canada. And now angry, religious, testosterone driven young men are killing themselves and as many "infidels" as they can take with them.
What do you think of war? Will mankind ever be at peace or will we always have one more "day to remember" like Dec 7 or Sept 11?
Answer: as long as there is oil there will be war and as the oil gets less and usa uses more so wars will get more frequent

How often do we hear President Bush tell the troops that if they die it is for "democracy"?
One of the effects of nationalist thinking is a loss of a sense of proportion. The killing of 2,300 people at Pearl Harbor becomes the justification for killing 240,000 in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The killing of 3,000 people on Sept. 11 becomes the justification for killing tens of thousands of people in Afghanistan and Iraq.
We need to refute the idea that our nation is different from, morally superior to, the other imperial powers of world history.
We need to assert our allegiance to the human race, and not to any one nation.
Remember this on the 4th of July.

Answer: Good old yellow bellied, chickensh*t, coward George who made sure he didn't see any combat in Vietnam. Most guys I know who go to Iraqi are fighting for their buddies who are there with them. They fight so that they may all come home together alive. No one wants to die for George bush. As for him telling the troops that they are fighting for "democracy" and if they die they die for "democracy" is a lie. By they way, why haven't any of the Bush clans children joined the military yet to fight for dear old dad or uncle George. Where is their sense of patiotism and responsibility to America?

Can someone help me examine this speech by Franklin Roosevelt about Pearl Harbor?
OK here is the speech
To the Congress of the United States:
Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.
Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleagues delivered to our Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. And while this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or of armed attack.
It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.
Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya.
Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.
Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.
Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.
Last night, the Japanese attacked Wake Island.
And this morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.
Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.
As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.
But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.
No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.
I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.
Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.
With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounding determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God.
I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.
I need to find a passage that be used in the following situations and write a paragraph about it
1.a passage that could be used by Woodrow Wilson for entering WWI (with minor changes)
2. a passage that could be used for a post 9/11 speech
3. a passage that contains something inappropriate or offensive for citizens today
hopefully you can answer 1 or all of the questions above or give me some ideas im stumped
Answer: 1. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.
2.The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.
3. so help us God. (not everyone is christian?)
The last one I am not so sure about. Maybe the statement about never forgetting the treachery....

Do you think if Liberals took time to read, like this article, they might care more about the safety of USA?
DO NOT FORGET"
I sat in a movie theater watching "Schindlers List," asked myself, "Why didnt the Jews fight back?" Now I know why. I sat in a movie theater, watching "Pearl Harbor" and asked myself, "Why werent we prepared?"
Now I know why.
Civilized people cannot fathom, much less predict, the actions of evil people. On September 11, dozens of capable airplane passengers allowed themselves to be overpowered by a handful of poorly armed terrorists because they did not comprehend the depth of hatred that motivated their captors.
On September 11, thousands of innocent people were murdered because too many Americans naively reject the reality that some nations are dedicated to the dominance of others. Many political pundits, pacifists and media personnel want us to forget the carnage. They say we must focus on the bravery of the rescuers and ignore the cowardice of the killers. They implore us to understand the motivation of the perpetrators.
Major television stations have announced they will assist the healing process by not replaying devastating footage of the planes crashing into the Twin Towers.
I will not be manipulated. I will not pretend to understand. I will not forget. I will not forget the liberal media who abused freedom of the press to kick our country when it was vulnerable and hurting. I will not forget that CBS anchor Dan Rather preceded President Bushs address to the nation with the snide remark, "No matter how you feel about him, he is still our president." I will not forget that ABC TV anchor Peter Jennings questioned President Bushs motives for not returning immediately to Washington, DC and commented, "Were all pretty skeptical and cynical about Washington."
And I will not forget that ABCs Mark Halperin warned if reporters werent informed of every little detail of this war, they arent "likely - nor should they be expected to show deference." I will not isolate myself from my fellow Americans by pretending an attack on the USS Cole in Yemen was not an attack on the United States of America. I will not forget the Clinton administration equipped Islamic terrorists and their supporters with the worlds most sophisticated telecommunications equipment and encryption technology, thereby compromising Americas ability to trace terrorist radio, cell phone, land lines, faxes and modem communications.
I will not be appeased with pointless, quick retaliatory strikes like those perfected by the previous administration.I will not be comforted by "feel-good, do nothing" regulations like the silly "Have your bags been under your control?" question at the airport. I will not be influenced by so called,"antiwar demonstrators" who exploit the right of expression to chant anti-American obscenities. I will not forget the moral victory handed the North Vietnamese by American war protesters who reviled and spat upon the returning soldiers, airmen, sailors and Marines.
I will not be softened by the wishful thinking of pacifists who chose reassurance over reality. I will embrace the wise words of Prime Minister Tony Blair who told Labor Party conference, "They have no moral inhibition on the slaughter of the innocent. If they could have murdered not 7,000 but 70,000, does anyone doubt they would have done so and rejoiced in it?
There is no compromise possible with such people, no meeting of minds, no point of understanding with such terror. Just a choice: defeat it or be defeated by it. And defeat it we must!" I will force myself to: -hear the weeping-feel the helplessness-imagine the terror-sense the panic-smell the burning flesh- experience the loss- remember the hatred.
I sat in a movie theater, watching "Private Ryan" and asked myself, "Where did they find the courage?" Now I know. We have no choice. Living without liberty is not living.
-- Ed Evans, MGySgt., USMC (Ret.)
Not as lean, Not as mean, But still a Marine.
Charmed: WTF are you talking about????
Answer: To a liberal, it is easier to blame President Bush and tell themselves that sitting about a fire, holding hands and singing Kimbra will make everyone love us.
As for pissing off the terrorists , we do that by supporting Israel. If we acquiesce to their demands and stop supporting Israel, who will they demand we stop supporting next? What if the demand ultimately escalates to "convert to Islam" or else? The whinners don't understand that caving in to one demand is all it will take. I've come to the conclusion that liberals are to national security what the Chinese are to toy and food safety.
Semper Fi Marine. Remember, the same goes for a retired soldier and the father of one now serving. I might be a little older and not as lean and fit as I once was, but I'm still a soldier.

How strong is our Armed Forces of the Philippines?
I had asked this question because of the build up of Chinese military presence near our archipelago because of the Spratley Island enclave not only this particular case but the persistence threat of Abu Sayyaf group and MILF forces in Mindanao particularly in Sulu, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi area. Kidnapping in Mindanao is still rampant. Some are being reported to the news and some are not. I imagine the invasion of the Japanese forces in the Philippines in 1941 but merged that to the present time 2009. As if time travel sequence, the Japanese forces of 1941 is invading the Philippines in the present time 2009. Would you think the Japanese forces would once again over runned the Philippines even this time around? I think yes. Remember Gen. Homma landed in Leyte. After the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor in December 1941 at the early morning of 7 am, the Japanese forces proceed to the Philippines, by lunch time they are already at Carriedo in Manila. This is how fast the Japanese then. But that was more than 50 years ago. And Japan is not a threat anymore in Southeast Asia but other players are. The Philippine military forces are complacent because of the presence of the US military forces in Southeast Asia particularly in Japan and in Hawaii. We are indebted to the Americans for life if not for them we are probably a Japanese nation then. But as a nation we are definitely not improving our ownselves because of this idea and concept. That is why we should have been a US territory than having an independence without a sense dont you think? As for me, our military forces should be strong enough to defend the nation in times of war or whatever. But as I see it all along it is not what I expected. Not to mention the corruption in the AFP itself and other military adventure of having coup every now & then. Our AFP is rotting within itself, and perhaps would be hard to redeem itself in the coming future so whatelse is new? Thank you.
Answer: In numbers the AFP is strong. We have a lot of brave, well trained, capable, well motivated, young soldiers in the regular AFP, and we also have the ready reserve and the citizenry who are ready to defend the country. It is in this kind situation that a large population is indeed an asset . That itself is an advantage compared to our neighboring countries like Singapore and Brunei whose main problem is the lack of manpower.
In hardware, everybody knows we are not. An aerial attack from an aggresor like China would only last for 30 mins. and the Philippine skies is theirs. The S211 jet aircraft that the Philippine Airforce currently have is an underdog to the F-16 that Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore have and to the Chinese made jet fighters. The S211 is designed to be a trainer and not a fighter. That's all what is left when the airforce mothballed their F5s.
The Navy and the Ground Forces also have limited firepower and
logistics.
The AFP is sure capable of suppressing any internal threats like the Abu Sayaff, CPP/NPA and terrorist but not an external threat from a mighty power like China. Our first line of defense hence would be diplomacy.
Anyway don't be too sad... hardware is not all what it takes to win a war. Just like this case...The US is a mighty power and everyone knows that. But did they won in Vietnam? in Iraq? in Afganistan?

Do you think if both parties could admit that they are wrong on some aspects, we would get along better...?
and not have this nation divided as it is? i mean, when you think about it, arent we all americans? the fact that we can spout our opinions on all issues just shows how great the freedom of this country really is! how about we put aside our petty differneces for a day, and remember the brave men and women who died in Pearl Harbor?
Answer: I dont think we are a divided nation. It is mostly just the politicians and the media that are divided. The common people are more in the middle and just cvote for the person they support more. Think about this, if I vote for a republican because I agree with 51% of what they say, I dont agree with them 100% and hate democrats. Its just that 1% that put me over the edge to the republican side. No one can see this because they see a vote for a person as them supporting that party completely and hating the other side. You should read the book Culture War by Morris P. Fiorina, its really good.

A Day of Infamy - Barry Bonds Indicted?
On December 7th (remember Pearl Harbor) Barry Bonds goes to court for lying to a federal grand jury.
forget the grand jury thing for this question, theres no doubt in my mind Baseball was after Barry Bonds was it a race thing or a jerk thing , will he play again & will this have ramifications on MLB?
Roadkill Nation Fantasy Sports
Answer: It's a poster-child thing, and a tax dollar thing.
For the US to have spent in excess of $15 million in the Mitchell probe, SOMEONE gets to be the "poster child" for the evils of performance enhancing drugs. Why not get the biggest celebrity, and the one who happens to have the most evidence against him?
Make no mistake, Barry is a miserable malcontent, and whiner. But, I have a hard time that this just a jerk thing, or is race related.
The probe seems to be uniformally concentrated on drugs, and they are investigating all players, not just the black career home run leader.
This is about Barry lying to the Grand Jury. McGwire had the sense to shut his mouth and seemingly forget his whereabouts or actions for a 15 year period.
Still, McGwire is fully assumed to have taken steroids, and he's simply not an active player. Were he still in the game, the media would be looking for zits on his back and a larger hat size, just as they do with Barry. He would get the hammer dropped on him just the same.
Will he play again? No. No team needs or wants that kind of circus. That's too much of a distraction in the clubhouse, and Barry's not a "clubhouse guy" to begin with.
Implications for MLB? Minimal. Home runs are already down. Fans are tired of the story. The league will be forced to bolster its testing, all while HGH looms larger than life in the shadows.
The fans want to go back to the old days of family at the ballpark, hot-dogs, foul balls, 7th inning stretches, and no pesky kids questions about drugs. You know, farting rainbows...

Silly thing - like hiding under a desk - would prevent the effects of the devastation. Any new homes - built during this time - were offered the optional - bomb shelter. Silly people - like - when or if - one exited said shelter - what would be left above. Silly people ♥

A TERRORIST WAR OBAMA HAS DENIED
Charles Krauthammer
Washington Post, January 1, 2010
Janet Napolitano -- former Arizona governor, now overmatched secretary of homeland security -- will forever be remembered for having said of the attempt to bring down an airliner over Detroit: "The system worked." The attackers concerned father had warned U.S. authorities about his sons jihadist tendencies. The would-be bomber paid cash and checked no luggage on a transoceanic flight. He was nonetheless allowed to fly, and would have killed 288 people in the air alone, save for a faulty detonator and quick actions by a few passengers.
Heck of a job, Brownie.
The reason the country is uneasy about the Obama administrations response to this attack is a distinct sense of not just incompetence but incomprehension. From the very beginning, President Obama has relentlessly tried to play down and deny the nature of the terrorist threat we continue to face. Napolitano renames terrorism "man-caused disasters." Obama goes abroad and pledges to cleanse America of its post-9/11 counterterrorist sins. Hence, Guantanamo will close, CIA interrogators will face a special prosecutor, and Khalid Sheik Mohammed will bask in a civilian trial in New York -- a trifecta of political correctness and image management.
And just to make sure even the dimmest understand, Obama banishes the term "war on terror." Its over -- that is, if it ever existed. Obama may have declared the war over. Unfortunately, al-Qaeda has not. Which gives new meaning to the term "asymmetric warfare." And produces linguistic -- and logical -- oddities that littered Obamas public pronouncements following the Christmas Day attack....
More jarring still were Obamas references to the terrorist as a "suspect" who "allegedly tried to ignite an explosive device." You can hear the echo of FDR: "Yesterday, December 7, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- Japanese naval and air force suspects allegedly bombed Pearl Harbor."
Obama reassured the nation that this "suspect" had been charged. Reassurance? The president should be saying: We have captured an enemy combatant -- an illegal combatant under the laws of war: no uniform, direct attack on civilians -- and now to prevent future attacks, he is being interrogated regarding information he may have about al-Qaeda in Yemen. Instead, Abdulmutallab is dispatched to some Detroit-area jail and immediately lawyered up. At which point -- surprise! -- he stops talking....
This is all quite mad even in Obamas terms. He sends 30,000 troops to fight terror overseas, yet if any terrorists come to attack us here, they are magically transformed from enemy into defendant. The logic is perverse. If we find Abdulmutallab in an al-Qaeda training camp in Yemen, where he is merely preparing for a terror attack, we snuff him out with a Predator -- no judge, no jury, no qualms. But if we catch him in the United States in the very act of mass murder, he instantly acquires protection not just from execution by drone but even from interrogation....
Any government can through laxity let someone slip through the cracks. But a government that refuses to admit that we are at war, indeed, refuses even to name the enemy -- jihadist is a word banished from the Obama lexicon -- turns laxity into a governing philosophy.
SCENES FROM THE WAR ON TERRORISM IN YEMEN
Ali H. Soufan
New York Times, January 3, 2010
The evidence that Al Qaedas branch in Yemen had a role in the failed Christmas Day bombing of an American passenger jet has led some to declare that Yemen is the new front in the war against the terrorist organization. But the truth is, Yemen has been a front in that wa
Answer: Very good article and so true.
Leads one to wonder, just whose side is Obama and his nefarious crew on? I really don't know. His pretend teleprompter anger the other day... days late, I might add... was so fake and I notice he made sure he didn't take any responsibility, just blamed everyone else.
Maybe someone should tell him.." the buck does stop on his desk" The one in Washington, not Hawaii on the golf course.
It is scary to have a community organizer, and not even a very good one.. in charge of our country when there are crazy people trying to blow us up... and he wants to make sure they get their day in court. Personally, I could care less.

Why are we rushing to make memorials for victims of the 9/11 tragedy when it took this nation over 60 years ?
build a memorial for the 400,000 american victims of WWII. I have been given the response: because all the victims in the 9/11 tragedy were innocent victims/ civilians. 5,600 american civilians died because of WW II and we dont "remember" the attack on Pearl Harbor as much as we do 9/11. Please dont get me wrong, 9/11 was a horrible act of terrorism and should be remembered but we forgot about the people who died in WWII. Why did it take 60 years to build a memorial to remember those that died--those that entered a draft to fight for what Americans believed. I just find it disgraceful to the WWII veterans and those that lost their lives (over 400,000) that we do not recognize their efforts but we hurry and erect memorials all across this nation to remember 3,000 people. Please help me understand this and I certainly mean no disrespect to anyone who lost a loved one on 9/11 but there were MANY families that lost a loved one in December 1941 and the years that followed once we entered WWII
Answer: probably because WWII was a war, and people accept the fact that people die in wars whereas 9/11 was an act of terrorism that a good chunk of people weren't expecting. i guess in wars you sort of know you could die, but in 9/11 civilians were just enjoying everyday life until it was lost.
no disrespect to anyone who's lost someone due to 9/11 or WWII

What are some examples of ethos pathos and logos in President Roosevelts Pearl Harbor address? Please Help!
Mr. Vice President, Mr. Speaker, Members of the Senate, and of the House of Representatives:
Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 -- a date which will live in infamy -- the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.
Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to our Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message.
There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.
With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph -- so help us God.
I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.
Answer: After the atrocious attack at Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii, President Roosevelt addressed Congress, the nation, and the world to let them know that the United States was not going to sit back after it had been so brutally attacked. The effect that this speech has had on history was profound. By using neoclassical rhetorical criticism, one will see more clearly the effects that the speech had. By using these methods, one will be able to see Roosevelt’s use of emotion (pathos) and his character and reputation (ethos) rather than logic and reason (logos) to get the result he wanted from his audience after his speech and have the profound impact that his speech has had.
President Roosevelt gave this stirring speech in response to the atrocious attack on Pearl Harbor. It appears that his fear of the consequences of isolationism proved fruitful. The Japanese attacked several targets in the Pacific Ocean on December 7, 1941, including the hub of the United States Pacific Naval fleet. Roosevelt knew that the country could not sit back in an isolationist setting any longer. Now, he had to convince the Congress to take action. At the same time, however, he had to inform the much of the country about what had happened. Because of these addresses, the public felt comfortable with Roosevelt and therefore he had more effect with this speech. This speech was given during a Joint Session of Congress on Dec. 8, 1941(Roosevelt). President Roosevelt used it not only to convince an already
sympathetic Congress to go to war, but to inform and convince the nation about what had happened and what needed to be done in response. Roosevelt used the occasion to the maximum advantage that he could.
Roosevelt was very good with public speaking. He knew all the proper nuances to use to get what he wanted done. This speech seems to be the best example of his abilities.
President Roosevelt had long been demonstrating his great ability to use pathos and occasionally logos to convince audiences of his goals. He had greatly established his
ethos and used that to his advantage. By analyzing the actual rhetoric, it becomes even more apparent that he relied heavily on his reputation and his ability to play on the
audience’s emotions to convince them of his purpose.
First, examine the invention of the speech. Roosevelt and his speech writers wrote The Day of Infamy speech soon after getting word of the attacks in the Pacific. They knew that a call for action was necessary and that at the same time, most of the country would not know of the attacks. The structure of the speech is clear and precise. He bluntly informs the country of the massacre at Pearl Harbor and other locales in the Pacific by the Japanese. He makes sure to include at the very beginning that the United States was under the impression that there was peace between the two countries. He continually points out that the attack had been obviously planned out far in advance, while the Japanese continued to deceive the United States with talks of peace. He then point blank reviews the numerous attacks that the Japanese made in the Pacific the day before. He makes it clear that the country was brutally attacked several times before making his main reason for the emergency session known. He establishes several things before getting to his main point that the United States must declare war on Japan. He does not fully address this fact until the end of his speech, which is perhaps his most brilliant move.
The structure of his speech plays well with the style of his speech. His speech is almost a paradox. On the one hand it is very blunt and straightforward. However, on the
other hand it is very elaborate and fancy. His language is simple so that the audience can easily understand it. However, it is powerful in its simplicity. It is so straightforward
that the audience cannot help but be affected. At several points during the speech he deviated slightly, such as when he added “I regret to inform you (Roosevelt)” before informing the public that many American lives had been lost. While it was not memorized, it was clear that the president was well versed in this and was very passionate about it.
His delivery was that of an impassioned, angered, patriotic American. He seemed to understand how his citizens would react, as evidenced by his pauses for applause. His
tonal modulations were clearly well planned for maximum effectiveness. His angered delivery seemed to convey all that Americans must have been feeling. One can clearly
imagine what his facial expressions and hand gestures were.
His delivery obtained the reaction that he had hoped for. His audience, which included citizens not only of America, but also of the world, both at the time of the speech and in the 63 years since, have all been affected by his stirring words.
Throughout the speech, Roosevelt was interrupted by applause. However, he seemed to encourage the response. Most of the audience listening in on radios was not yet aware of the attack. Therefore, it was important for Roosevelt to make them as impassioned as he was so that there were not protests about going to war.
The country spurred to action. Men joined up with the services. Women helped out any way they could. Throughout the war, they thought back on Roosevelt’s speech
and his call to action. Even today, when people hear that speech, or read it, they feel a stir of patriotism that is almost unprecedented.
His frequent use of pathos and ethos he was able to make a great impact on his peers and audiences. While he also used logos, he did not rely on it as heavily as he did with his ethos and pathos. This speech will always be remembered as one of the greatest of all time.President Roosevelt’s brilliant delivery and excellent writing have helped to make him one of the most memorable orators in American, if not World, history.

If a Government authorized the attack but bomb full of civilians instead of soldiers, would it be terrorism?
I have a debate for tomorrow in high school in order to sum up the speech like i posted this question up here. The horror we never forget, the anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing is today and someone online mentioned that we remember all terrorist victims today - the Ok bombing, 9/11, and Pearl Harbor. Most people say that if a nation attack another nation its called an act of war. But what if a Government authorized the attack but chose to bomb full of civilians instead of soldiers unprovoked attack, would it be terrorism?
ok lets flip the switch here. Just imagining. Say the US was neutral in WW2. They take no sides. The Japanese Government ordered a attack on military base on Pearl harbor but instead killed over 3,000 civilians and 500 soldiers in an unprovoked attack, would it be terrorism or an act of war?
Lets say If an Afghan government authorized the 9/11 attack and fly into a plane full of civilians into a twin towers, would it be terrorism or an act of war?
What do you think in yr opinions and draw up some good arguments please. No simple minded like the answer "yes" or "you just answer your own question"= no best answers. I dont want that. I need some of your best arguments please.
im not saying its a fact. I looking for an opinions thats all. Need some good arguments and youre not.
Stop using wikipedia as a source. Trying to analzye please.
"The attack on Pearl harbour was an act of war etc, because it killed military personnel". I understand but what if they attacked full of civilians instead of soldiers even they were ordered to strike a military base? Read my 1st question please.
redleg, that my point. Its an opinion. What do you think if a government ordered to attack on civilians whether a military base of nor? is it a terrorist attack or an act or war? thats my whole point. Im lookin for an opinions not facts.
Houd1n1. That because the Korean war is still going on today. IM TALKING ABOUT WHEN A COUNTRY IS NEUTRAL. Hiroshima and Nagasaki are act of war. That when the US was at war in Japan. PH was an unprovoked attack when US was neutral regardless of political discussions. You guys are missing at point. If a Government authorized the attack against a neutral country but bomb full of civilians instead of soldiers, would it be terrorism? you guys are missing the point.
Answer: To answer your question, "Yes, it would not be an act of terrorism, regardless of the targets if the nation that was attacked perceived it to be so."
There is no on definition for terrorism, but it is widely agreed upon (even out side of the UN/NATO) that it is an act that uses fear/terror as it's main propellant in order to duel some agenda (normally anti-government or religious) Terrorist and the actions they do (terrorism) is all in the eye of the beholder. If a country, person, or group attack someone else and use fear as a way to force their will upon them. Then they are a terrorist, plain and simple. The thing with politics and history, is that the winner writes the books, so "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" comes into play. It literally is based upon the motives of th person, and how the rest of the world community views it.

Have we all forgotten what made America great?
SHALL WE HIRE A MONUMENT ENGRAVER TO GO TO ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY AND ADD THE MISSING WORDS ?
A MESSAGE FROM AN APPALLED OBSERVER:
Today I went to visit the new World War
II Memorial in Washington, DC!
I got an unexpected history lesson. Because Im a baby boomer, I was one of the youngest in the crowd. Most were the age of my parents, Veterans of "the greatest war," with their families. It was a beautiful day,
and people were smiling and happy to be there. Hundreds of us milled around the memorial, reading the inspiring words of Eisenhower and Truman that are engraved there.
On the Pacific side of the memorial, a group of us gathered to read the words President Roosevelt used to announce the attack on Pearl Harbor:
Yesterday, December 7,
1941-- a date which will live in infamy--the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked.
One elderly woman read the words aloud:
With confidence in our armed forces, with the abounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph.
But as she read, she was suddenly turned angry. "Wait a minute," she said, "they left out the end of the quote. They left out the most important part. Roosevelt ended
the message with "so help us God."
Her husband said, "You are probablyright. Were not supposed to say
things like that now."
"I know Im right," she insisted. "I remember the speech." The two looked dismayed, shook their heads sadly and walked away.
Listening to their conversation, I thought to myself,Well, it has been over 50 years shes probably
forgotten."
But she had not forgotten. She was right.
I went home and
pulled out the book my book club is reading --- "Flags of
Our Fathers" by James Bradley. Its all about the battle at Iwo Jima.
I havent gotten too far in the book. Its tough to read because its a graphic description of the WWII battles in the Pacific.
But right there it was on page 58. Roosevelts speech to the nation ends
in "so help us God."
The people who edited out that part of the speech when they engraved it on the memorial could have fooled me. I was born after the war.! But they couldnt fool the people who were there. Roosevelts words are engraved on their hearts.
Now I ask: "WHO GAVE THEM THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE WORDS OF
HISTORY?????????"
Send this around to your friends People need to know before everyone forgets. People today are trying to change the history of America by leaving God out of it, but the truth is, God has been a part of this nation, since the beginning. He still wants to be...and He always will be!
