National Organization for Women
The National Organization for Women (NOW) was found on June 30, 1996 in Washington, D.C. by a small determined group of women’s rights advocates. The founders included Betty Friedan and Shirley Chisholm. NOW has more than 500,000 devoting members. It has been very effective and has brought many changes in laws and policies that expand womens opportunities and protect their rights.
NOWs strength is in its unity. They work together and the group has made many changes. NOW has made many notable achievements. The birth control pill was approved, public support for gay-marriage has grown, and the Equal Pay Act was passed in 1963 by the help of NOW. It hopes to accomplish Reproductive Rights, Lesbian Rights, eliminating discrimination against women and economic justice.
NOW educates the public and media, it organizes rallies and protests. It also inspires voters and lobbies to promote full equality for women. NOW does not trust foundation and corporate dollars. The work is made possible by membership dues, volunteer hours and individual donations. NOW also established a NOW Equality PAC in 1977 to support feminist candidates. It raises money for political campaigns and related activities. The money is put to work through contributions or throught grassroots organizing.
NOW describes itself as a non-partisan organization but it has been constantly persuading voters to vote for democratic candidates. The Capital Research Center evaluated the political and ideological leanings of NOW foundation and placed NOW near at the extereme left. NOW has been hostile to traditional religious values, conservative ideas and men. Any organization that idealizes itself on religious views is disliked by NOW.
Although, NOW supports democratic candidates, it is against the Health Care reform legislation. NOW strongly opposes the bill because it contains anti-abortion language. NOW supports legislations that protect womens right to legal, safe birth control. They support Equal Pay legislation. They also oppose the immigration legislation.
IS IT FULL TWO PAGES?
Answer: I got 316 words and 1 page and a little of the 2nd page. However if you want just the writing ( not the title- National Organization for Women), then the word count is 312.
Good luck on your writing!

How about a new republican party?
specifically some changes in platform
how about a party that promotes individual freedom
and by that i mean complete individual freedom
like allowing gay marriage so we can get those votes and not alienate them to the other side of the isle
how about a candidate that doesnt pretend to be religious to get the votes of a few fundamentalists and instead promotes REAL INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM by giving just as much attention to the fruition of science as he does to religion
someone that wants to keep church and state seperate so we can protect people of all faiths
how about someone who gives more power to the states so that more problems can be solved by people who are close to you and actually experience the problem with you on the local level rather then some washington bureaucrat
someone who will cut taxes for corporations as long as they create jobs here in this country and provide their employees with good health care coverage how about a health care program that instead of nationalizing healthcare we give tax incentives to those people who make a real change in their own personal lives to have a cleaner bill of health think about it most people die from heart desease diabetes and cancer most of which are preventable if people would just make better decisions when it comes to their health and as a republican i would say that its up to each and every individual to improve our health care situation and not the government and that if a person is willing to take care of themselves so they spend less money on surgeries and the effects of bad decisions that saves the country money and those savings ought to be passed on to the consumers from the top down so that we can use that to further grow the economy and private insurance wont be overstretched to the point it is now and health care coverage would be affordable to those who need it for non-preventable desease how about keeping a strong military while at the same time reestablishing ourselves as the true party of peace.....and another thing lets run on ENDING HOMELESSNESS FOR OUR VETERANS because we made a promise to those veterans and we should never break it we should take care of them just as they have taken care of us now i know that some of this is contraversial but i beleive its time to get back to our roots. what do you think republicans?
Answer: your completely stupid.
We already want freedom IN everything
when your little happy camper at the white house decides to promote no freedom of speech, making laws on jobs that lay off everyone and put that job out of business, tells us to invest in freddie gay and fannie dumb, you really need to stop listening to one side.
you obviously want the government to rule us, you obviously want us to be in more debt.
Thank you obama fan, since all you want is what republicans stand for.
Remember, democrats were in office the past two years in congress. Bush got the heat for their poor decissions, blame someone else, that democrats, who blame everyone else.

Will Governor Linda Lingle (R) decide in favor of same-sex marriage? Do Hawaiians care? 10 points?
Is this to be a big springtime election/primary "turning point"? Will Republicans unite against it? Will Democratic politicians/lawmakers unite in favor of it? Do regular citizens of the 50th state care? 10 points for best analysis / interpretation
__________________________________________________________________from Wash. Post:
Whether same-sex civil unions become legal in Hawaii is now up to Republican Gov. Linda Lingle, whose office was flooded Friday with phone calls and e-mails from gay rights and religious groups after the bill won approval in the waning moments of the legislative session.
Lingle has long avoided saying whether she would veto the measure or allow it to become law. She has until July 6 to make a decision.
The governor was unavailable for comment Friday as she was scheduled to return from a trip to California, but her office reported a high volume of calls pouring in from both opponents and supporters of the legislation.
The bill was unexpectedly revived and cleared the Legislature on Thursday, the last day of this years session.
Religious groups dont plan the kind of large opposition rallies seen previously at the Hawaii Capitol. Instead, they will lobby Lingle directly with personal messages.
"Shes kept it very close to the vest," said Dennis Arakaki, executive director of the Hawaii Family Forum and Hawaii Catholic Conference. "She wont let us know how she feels about it. Now well know. ... The ball is in her court."
Hes sending e-mails to churches and text messages to supporters urging them to contact the governors office to let her know how they feel about the issue.
Civil union backers will send handwritten letters and postcards to Lingle in addition to e-mails and phone calls asking her to approve the legislation, said Tony Wagner, Western Regional Field Director for the Human Rights Campaign.
"Its going to be important to keep up the pressure on the governor in order to demonstrate that there is support for this bill and for treating all families equally," Wagner said.
In addition, civil union supporters will likely take to the streets to wave signs as drivers pass by, he said.
Lingle has sent mixed signals: She wanted lawmakers to drop the issue because the state had more pressing budget matters to deal with, but she also said representatives should have put their votes on the record when they postponed a decision on the measure in January.
Her office sent an e-mail soliciting public comments on all legislation passed during this years session. Civil unions werent specifically mentioned.
"I encourage the public to continue to participate in the legislative process by providing input on the impact each piece of legislation would have on our state," Lingle said in the e-mail.
Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona, who is seeking the Republican nomination for governor this fall, wants the bill vetoed.
"If the Legislature wanted to establish the equivalent of same-sex marriage, they should have put it on the ballot for the people to decide," Aiona said in a statement. "This bill should not be allowed to become law."
If approved, Hawaii will become one of six states - along with California, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon and Washington - to grant essentially all the rights of marriage to same-sex couples without authorizing marriage itself.
Five other states and the District of Columbia permit same-sex marriage: Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
The Aloha State has been a battleground in the gay rights movement since the early 1990s.
A 1993 Hawaii Supreme Court ruling nearly made Hawaii the first state to legalize same-sex marriage before voters in the state overwhelmingly approved the nations first "defense of marriage" constitutional amendment in 1998.
The measure gave the Legislature the power to reserve marriage to opposite-sex couples. It resulted in a law banning gay marriage in Hawaii but left the door open for civil unions.
"I dont know where the governor is going to be on this issue," said Tambry Young, co-chair of Equality Hawaii. "Were hoping she sees it as an equality issue."
Although Lingle has until July 6 to make a decision, her intentions will be known sooner. She must send the Legislature a list of bills that shell potentially veto by June 22. Measures not on that list would become law, either with or without her signature.

thanks for taking the time to read and to post your ANSWER
Answer: I don't know what Lingle will do; I can't read her mind. I do know the following, however:
*Hawaii is a strongly Democratic state, though Lingle calls herself a Republican
*Lingle herself is gay
*Lingle is the outgoing governor.
I am an employee of the Hawaii Dept. of Education. Lingle has angered MANY people in this state over the past nine months as she has chopped the education budget and instituted 17 school furlough days for the 2009-10 school year. We are still waiting to hear whether or not there will be furloughs during the 2010-11 school year. Kids missed nearly 10% of their school days this year (17 out of 180) and I lost out on nearly 10% of my pay. Besides that, Lingle has done some other shady things during her tenure as governor. She overrode the state law for an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) for the now-defunct Hawaii SuperFerry. Now the state is out millions of dollars for the ferry AND it is gone, so it cost us money for NOTHING.
I hope that Lingle does see this as an equality issue, because that's what it is. Regardless of what she does, it won't affect her personally as she is on her way out of the governor's mansion.

Answer: No, but only because marriage law is state law, not federal. So Congress cannot and should not be legislating in this area. What you can request they do is repeal the unconstitutional DOMA which allows states to ignore the 14th Amendment and the Full Faith and Credit Clause and not recognize valid marriages fro other states.
I certainly hope that one day all 50 states recognize this fundamental right for all of their citizens.

Is threatening children the new Christan way of protesting gay rights in Washington?
Looks like it. Someone please tell me what the kids in the adoption and foster care services that will be losing Catholic support did to deserve this? Or is threatening kids how Christians plan to win support for their beliefs these days?
"WASHINGTON (AFP) – The Catholic church has warned it will stop joint aid projects with Washingtons authorities if the city passes a proposed law to legalize gay marriage.
The US capitals Catholic authorities had asked to be exempted from part of a proposed same-sex marriage law that would also ban discrimination against gay men and lesbians.
In a statement, the citys archdiocese said the rules "could prevent social service providers such as Catholic Charities from continuing their long-term partnerships with the District government to provide critical social services for thousands of the citys most vulnerable residents."
Programs at risk include adoption and foster care services and could affect 68,000 people who use the services each year, the church said.
"Religious organizations and individuals are at risk of legal action for refusing to promote and support same-sex marriages in a host of settings where it would compromise their religious beliefs."
The bill is expected to be voted on next month."

Is the Catholic Church & La Raza on board with Insert Gay Rights into Immigration Debate?
WASHINGTON -- House Democrats are trying to broaden support for immigration reform by reaching out to the gay and lesbian community with a provision in immigration legislation that would allow gay and lesbian Americans to bring foreign partners home to the United States.
Under current law, American citizens and other legal permanent residents can get a green card or immigrant visa for a spouse or immediate family members living abroad. However, the same rights do not extend to same-sex couples living in the country.
During a news conference on Capitol Hill Thursday, Democratic Reps. Jerrold Nadler of New York, Luis Gutierrez of Illinois and Mike Honda of California, among others, urged Congress to pass the Uniting American Families Act as part of a comprehensive immigration reform package this year.
"Right now too many same-sex, binational couples face an impossible choice," said Gutierrez, who sits on the House Judiciary Committees immigration subcommittee, "to live apart or to break the law to be with partners, their families and children."
“Government should never engage in purposeless, gratuitous cruelty and we should stop it," Nadler said.
With no support from the GOP, the comprehensive immigration bill introduced by Gutierrez last December has stalled in the House. Republicans say this legislation wont help.
"These are creative people who just have the wrong philosophy," said Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, a member of the immigration subcommittee. "Its an alliance designed to grant amnesty."
"It tries to redefine traditional marriage. I cant support that," Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told Fox News. "If theyre looking to truly reach out to conservatives and Republicans and do something in a bipartisan way, this isnt it."
The legislation appears to be part of an effort to strengthen support on the left, rather than the right, by targeting a constituency that has yet to be heard from in the immigration debate -- the lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgendered community.

As Catholics Mexicans most certainly do not view the homosexual life style in a favorable light aka a unspeakable perversion against God and Man.
The Catholic Church takes it teaching from the bible. In the bible, active homosexuals are considered to be abominations. The Catholic Church has also follows the bible's teaching concerning bestiality ( the practice of having sex with animals)

How many Cons here use Windows?
Microsoft has officially come out in support of two pieces of legislation that would legalize same-sex marriage in Washington state.
Microsoft, which is headquartered in Redmond, Washington, explained its support by saying that discrimination of any kind lowers the quality of employees that the company is able to hire. A statement on The Official Microsoft Blog titled "Marriage Equality in Washington State Would Be Good for Business" reads in part:
Marriage equality in Washington would put employers here on an equal footing with employers in the six other states that already recognize the committed relationships of same-sex couples - Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. This in turn will help us continue to compete for talent.
Microsoft has joined forces with five other companies, including Vulcan (founded by none other than Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen), Nike, RealNetworks, Group Health Cooperative and Concur, sent a joint letter to Washington Governor Chris Gregoire, which according to The Atlantic, read simply, "We write you today to show the support of our respective companies for SB 6239 and HB 2516 recognizing marriage equality for same-sex couples."
Both bills are set for public hearing on January 23. If passed the legislation would allow civil marriages between same-sex couples.

Do you expect the Catholic church to follow through with their threat? If they do, would you consider it appropriate that the church discontinue charity work in the area because same-sex marriage will be allowed, even though they will not be required to perform same-sex marriages?

Answer: It was the organization Catholic Charities which was threatening to stop their programs in that area if the bill passed. Almost immediately, they softened their stance to say that they were afraid that they would no longer be able to help as they had in the past if the bill passed. I have a feeling that this was due to people (such as myself) saying that they would no longer donate to the organization.
If Catholic Charities feels that their feelings against homosexuality are going to get in the way of their helping the homeless, then I am fully prepared to support whatever organization steps in to take their place.
Catholic Charities has lost my money for good, and I am willing to bet that I am not the only one.
